Early Clarice Cliff

Original Bizarre by Clarice Cliff c1928

Now known as 'Original Bizarre', Clarice's first designs from 1927 consisted of triangles or diamonds creating blocks of contrasting and vibrant colour. The paintresses were told to accentuate their brush strokes to emphasize this hand painted look. Early pieces from the first six months or so of production have a simple hand written 'Bizarre' mark usually in orange/red enamel. The first 'Bizarre by Clarice Cliff' mark was then introduced and by 1929 these early 'geometric' wares were being phased out as more sophisticated floral and landscape designs were developed. Visit Premier Antiques for a great selection of Clarice Cliff.
