Pountney and Allies of Bristol

Pountney & Allies ' Chinese Fountains' c1830

A pottery near Temple Church in Bristol began producing delftware from 1683 and continued to do so for over a hundred years. In the late 18th century they began making fine creamwares and in 1813 John Decimus Pountney became a partner in the firm. By 1816 Edwin Allies had joined him and they began producing blue printed wares. Here is an unusual and lovely 'Chinese Fountains' plate produced a few years before the partnership ended in 1836.
