Gray's Pottery 'Cubist' Designs

Gray's Pottery Hand Painted 'Cubist' Beaker - Signed 'Mae' c1935

An unusual Gray's geometric design beaker, probably by Sam Talbot though reminiscent of earlier 'cubist' designs by Susie Cooper. From 1930 to around 1935, decorators would sometimes sign the face of their work and this one is signed 'Mae'. For more details visit my website Premier Antiques

Art Deco - Gray's Pottery

Gray's Pottery Art Deco Hand Painted Floral Wall Plate c1935

Under the influence of Gordon Forsyth and then later Susie Cooper, Gray's Pottery began to produce hand painted lustre and enamelled wares. By the late 1920s they were well known for their bold floral and geometric designs. Purely decorating studios, they bought in blanks from other factories and quite often the other factory mark can be seen under the larger Gray's backstamp. Here is a lovely plate with a design by Sam Talbot from the mid 30s which shows the great skill of Gray's paintresses. For more details see Premier Antiques
