Royal Winton Lakeland

Grimwades first advertised Lakeland in early 1936 and a display at the British Industries Fair launched the range a month later. Two colour variations were produced and items made include preserve pots, cream and sugar sets, dishes and mint sauce boats. Pearlware Willow Pattern Drainer

Drainers were sold as optional extras to meat platters and intended to sit in the centre well to drain meat or fish juices. Here is a fine quality willow pattern one with a lovely blue pearlware glaze and decorative piercing. For more details see Premier Antiques

John and William Ridgway 'India Temple' Pattern

A fine stone ware dish from Ridgways with a gadrooned edge showing a harbour scene with several junks and a pagoda-style temple. The pattern has an obvious Chinese influence rather than Indian; a curious and delightful mix. For more details see Premier Antiques

Pearl Ware

Originally made by Wedgwood in the 1770s as an improvement on Creamware, the whiteness of the earthenware body was enhanced with small quantities of cobalt blue being added to the glaze. Where the glaze gathers, such as around foot rims, it shows up clearly as a blue or sometimes greenish tint. Other potters soon found it ideal for blue printed wares. Royal Winton - Eleanor Chintz

A pretty design first introduced in the late 1930s. Pink roses with sprigs of other flowers in yellow, blue, pink and white. Between the sprigs are tiny stylised flowers in mauve and the background colour is white. For more see Premier Antiques

Early Blue and White - Herculaneum

A lovely arcaded dessert plate in the very rare 'Vatican Gardens' pattern attributed to Herculaneum. Pierced plates are in themselves difficult to find undamaged, so it's great to find one with a scarce pattern. For more details see Premier Antiques

Royal Winton - Cottage Ware

The relief moulded cottage wares produced by Grimwades under the Royal Winton and Rubian Art trade names were first introduced in 1929. Throughout the 1930s new lines were introduced to great acclaim, and always innovative, Grimwades used some items as 'premiums'. Customers could save vouchers when buying chocolate for example, and redeem them against a four piece set comprising a teapot, hot water pot, cream and sugar.
