Sowerby 'Blanc de Lait' pressed glass basket c1880 |
Introduced by Sowerby in the 1870s, Vitro-Porcelain looked like both glass and china and was something that had never been seen before. The only surviving pattern books No. VIII (1879) and No. IX (1880) were full of Vitro-Porcelain items ranging from small posy holders and spills to flower pots and vases. The first colour produced was Turquoise and was soon followed by Blanc de Lait. For a selection of Sowerby visit Premier Antiques
