A colourful Royal Doulton geometric 'floral pattern' rack plate block printed in contrasting cerise, mauve, blue, green and yellow. A lovely example of the 'Floral K' series introduced in 1929. Doulton were one of the few factories to retain a block printing department. It was an expensive and skilled process, though capable of producing clear, bright colours which epitomise the art deco period. Introduced in September 1930, the flat sided Stamford shape was difficult to fire and hard to make at first, but it was soon being produced in sets comprising a Stamford teapot, milk and sugar. Matched with conical cups and saucers, they were an immediate success. Based on a silver design by Tétard of Paris, Clarice's pottery version has become a classic example of British art deco.
