Royal Worcester Blush Ivory 'Pink Roses' Vase c1903

In the 1890s Royal Worcester introduced a range of ornamental wares inspired by the new Art Nouveau style, though their roots in the aesthetic movement can still be seen. Scattered groups of enamelled flowers called 'art sprays' were embellished with gold and set on a blush ivory ground which used the new technique of aerographing. As many as five firings were used to produce the desired effect, resulting in delicate colours and rich gilding as in the superb vase shown above. Shelley Melody

Shelley 'Melody' cruet c1935

Introduced in the 1930s, Melody is a delicate pattern of daisies, cornflowers, thrift and other wild flowers scattered on a green and white 'vermicelli' ground. Before the war, most items were made of pottery with either green, yellow or blue trim and banding.
