Early Blue and White - the Game Keeper

A fine twiffler or side plate printed in medium blue with the Game Keeper pattern based on an engraving taken from three volumes of rural sports by W. B. Daniel published between 1805 and 1812. The original was drawn by John Landseer and engraved by H. B. Chalon, and interestingly, the pottery transfer engraver has added Goodwood House to the background. One of the early Fantasque designs, the much prized 'Summerhouse' pattern was introduced in 1931. A red gazebo or summerhouse, a tree with green trunk and pendulous yellow foliage, black bushes and a blue lake form this striking and very evocative landscape.
