Royal Doulton Frank Brangwyn 'Floral' Art Deco Vase c1931 D5162

Sir Frank Brangwyn RA (1867 – 1956) was an artist, engraver, illustrator and progressive designer. He received some artistic training from his father, and later from Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo and in the workshops of William Morris, although he was mainly self-taught. Brangwyn is best known for the British Empire Panels (1925–1932) which were originally intended for the Royal Gallery at the House of Lords at Westminster, but the House of Lords refused them because they were "too colourful and lively" for the location. During this period he also produced ceramic designs which were carried out in the Clarice Cliff and Royal Doulton workshops.

A superb orange cloud glass bowl 1907TD which has a band of diamond shaped decoration to the outside. One of the rarest Davidson cloud glass colours - there were several unsuccessful trials in 1933 until an acceptable colour and finish was finally achieved in 1934. The formula was amended and another small production run took place in 1935 before the colour range was finally abandoned due to production difficulties and cost.
