William Smith 'Bacchus' Pearlware Tea Cup and Saucer c1825 |
The Stafford Pottery near Stockton-on-Tees was operated by William Smith from 1825 to 1855. Known for fine quality blue and white, he appears to have been quite an enterprising potter, though overstepping the mark by using 'WEDGEWOOD' impressed on some of his products (note the extra 'E'). Wedgwood eventually managed to legally restrain him from doing this. Here we have a superb 'Bacchus' cup and saucer and a 'Turkish Pavilion' tea bowl.
