Shelley - Mabel Lucie Attwell

Shelley child's mug by Mabel Lucie Attwell c1940

The famous book illustrator began designing for Shelley in the 1920s with a few proto-type images and by 1926 was given full credit with the introduction of her BooBoo teapot, milk jug and sugar basin. Other  designs followed, printed on tableware intended for use by children. Difficult to find in reasonable condition, pieces in good order are now at a premium. Shelley - Mabel Lucie Attwell

From the 1920s to the 1950s, Shelley produced fine quality nursery ware based on the very popular images of childrens' illustrator Mabel Lucie Attwell. Difficult to find in good condition (many pieces didn't survive the rigours of the nursery) and highly prized when they are. For more see Premier Antiques

Shelley Mabel Lucie Attwell

In 1926 Shelley commissioned the children's book illustrator Mabel Lucie Attwell to design a range of nursery ware. She had recently published a number of books featuring small elves in green suits which she called 'Boo Boos'. These, together with her classic chubby faced children, became the themes portrayed on plates, mugs, dishes and even children's potties. Accompanied by a few lines of verse and each piece with a facsimile signature, they have now become very collectable. For a good selection visit Premier Antiques
