Clarice Cliff 'Picasso Fruit' or 'Melon'

Clarice Cliff Fantasque Bizarre Orange 'Melon' Havre Bowl c1932

Originally called 'Picasso Fruit' by early collectors, this superb design was subsequently given the name 'Melon'. Introduced in 1930 and produced up to about 1932, the stylised fruit and purple contour lines show great drawing skills. From smaller items such as preserve pots to larger items such as this lovely Havre bowl, the pattern always 'sits' well on these diverse shapes. Difficult to find in good condition, the blue in particular was prone to oxidisation in the kiln. For more details of this stunning bowl visit my website Premier Antiques
