Fake Susie Cooper miniature sets

Once again these horrid little fake coffee sets seem to be appearing on auction sites - one currently has bids of £220! A good attempt at copying Tiger Lily - the fake factory mark is fuzzy and irregular when compared with the real thing. The appearance of these fakes was first reported in the Antiques Trade Gazette in 1997. They are not children's nursery ware or 1930's travellers samples. No genuine Susie Cooper miniatures have ever been recorded. I've even seen sellers claiming they are rare 'attic finds'.

Victorian Majolica - William Brownfield

Rustic majolica vase by William Brownfield c1880

William Brownfield began producing majolica around 1870 and it was soon being appreciated because of its high quality, especially the body and brilliancy of colour. Several people who had worked on majolica at Minton and Wedgwood joined the firm and it was soon producing impressive pieces to rival the bigger firms. Here we have a fine rustic vase modelled as ivy climbing the trunk of an oak tree. For more details see Premier Antiques

This rare children's mug shows scene four of five 'Hullo Popski and Auntie - going to join the Gugnuncs?'. The name 'Gugnunc' came about because Wilfred spoke only in baby talk and 'gug' and 'nunc' were his favourite words.
