Rustic majolica vase by William Brownfield c1880 |
William Brownfield began producing majolica around 1870 and it was soon being appreciated because of its high quality, especially the body and brilliancy of colour. Several people who had worked on majolica at Minton and Wedgwood joined the firm and it was soon producing impressive pieces to rival the bigger firms. Here we have a fine rustic vase modelled as ivy climbing the trunk of an oak tree. For more details see Premier Antiques
