In 1878 Henry and James Doulton acquired the major interest in the Pinder, Bourne factory in Nile Street, Burslem and in 1882 the name of the firm was changed to Doulton & Company, Burslem. The Aesthetic Movement started in a small way in the 1860s in the studios and houses of artists and designers such as William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
