Spode's Waterloo Pattern

Spode 'Waterloo' or 'Italian Church' Pattern Tea Plate c1820

Thought originally to be an Italian scene with church, it was subsequently discovered to be St Joseph's in Waterloo, near to Wellington's headquarters during the famous battle of 1815. The pattern was used for earthenware breakfast and tea sets, though few pieces seem to have survived. Here we have a lovely tea plate or 'muffin' finely potted and printed in medium blue.
