Victorian Aesthetic Movement Majolica

19th century majolica producers were quick to develop wares which captured the new Aesthetic Movement style of the 1870s. After a period of seclusion, Japan was again opening up to trade with the west and Japanese taste began to heavily influence domestic design and the Aesthetic Movement grew out of this. Here we have a fantastic jug with sprays of blossom on a stippled and oriental weave background.
