Early Blue and White - Spode's Greek Pattern

Spode 'A Wreath for the Victor' Greek Series Dessert Plate c1810

A lovely series introduced by Spode around 1806 and based on published studies taken from the collection of Sir William Hamilton who was an avid collector of Greek, Etruscan and Roman antiquities. Here on a rare twiffler or dessert plate is a scene with Nike presenting a wreath to the victor. The four urns remain constant to the series, while the central panel and the border vignettes change according to the shape and size of items. For more details see Premier Antiques
