Barker Bros 'Arabesque' Art Deco Vase by John Guildford c1928 |
John Guildford initially worked for Gray's Pottery and in 1922 left to join Barker Brothers as a decorator and designer. As with Clarice Cliff and Susie Cooper, his name was incorporated into the factory mark as a designer of hand painted wares. Much rarer than the other two big art deco names (less output over a shorter period), his work is usually seen on tablewares. This large and stunning 'Arabesque' vase is a great rarity.
