Early Blue and White - Floral Patterns

S & J Burton 'Lovick's' Pattern Dinner Plate c1835

As both taste and transfer printing techniques began to change in the early 19th century, English potters began to produce 'all over' floral patterns as an alternative to Chinese or Italian influenced landscapes. By the 1820s, most manufacturers had developed their own floral designs which remained popular for a decade or so.
