Spode Greek pattern basket stand c1815 |
Introduced in 1806 and based on illustrations taken from a large work of Sir William Hamilton's collection of antiquities published in 1804, Spode's Greek pattern reflected the taste for all things classical. Four urns or vases in the border remain constant throughout the series, but the themes of the central panel and cartouches between the border urns vary in content. Although produced sporadically throughout the 19th century, rare early Spode pieces are much sought after by collectors. For more details visit Premier Antiques
