Clarice Cliff - Original Bizarre

Early Bizarre cup and saucer by Clarice Cliff c1929

The earliest 'geometric' or Original Bizarre designs were introduced in 1928 and were an immediate success. Simple triangles and other geometric shapes with broad brush strokes in contrasting colours were eventually superceded some eighteen months later by more sophisticated floral and landscape designs. The Bizarre name was retained for all ranges up to 1935/6. Below is an early cup and saucer in a striking and rarer colour combination of blue and yellow (always difficult colours to fire together as the blue often oxidises).
