Gaudy Welsh jug c1830 |
A generic term adopted after the war to describe wares with a particular palette of underglaze blue with overpainting in pink/copper lustre and iron red. First appearing in the 1820s, it was produced by potteries in the North East, Staffordshire and Wales, and as most early pieces are unmarked, it's difficult to give a definite attribution.
