Early Blue and White - Brameld 'Returning Woodman'

Brameld 'Peasant' or 'Returning Woodman' Octagonal Plate c1820

Made by Brameld and Co. of Swinton, Yorkshire, this fascinating rustic scene is known as 'The Returning Woodman' or 'Woodman' pattern, but 'Peasant' was the original name used by the factory. Printed in dark blue with a scene of a woodman returning to his thatched cottage, being greeted by his daughter and her dog while his wife sits at a spinning wheel outside the cottage. Unusual and very distinctive octagonal shapes were used for most pieces. For more details see Premier Antiques
