The Longport pottery of John Rogers and Son produced one of the most interesting early animal patterns. Printed in medium blue, it features an elephant and mahout in an oriental garden with trees and pagodas. Most of this pattern seems to have been produced in the 1815-1825 period. In 1810 Chunee the Indian elephant had been brought to London and exhibited at the Covent Garden Theatre to much awe. Below is a rare arcaded dish. For more details visit my website
