T J and J Mayer 'Boy with Bird's Nest' Parian Jug c1850

A rare glazed parian jug by T J and J Mayer (fl.1843-1855) which was registered in 1850 and won a prize medal at the Great Exhibition of 1851. Finely modelled in high relief as a tree with branched handle - one side featuring a boy climbing to reach a nest while the reverse shows him sitting with the nest in his lap. Sometimes produced with a background of brown, green or blue coloured slip.
