Carlton Ware 'Fruit Lustre' preserve pot c1925

In the 1920s Carlton Ware introduced a series of preserve pots which were given a deep lustre finish with a moulded cluster of hand painted fruit on the lids. The lustre colours ranged from vivid pink through soft lavender to the deepest of blues. Earlier pieces are marked Wiltshaw and Robinson. For more details see Premier Antiques

This beautiful comport was produced in the first year or so of Clarice Cliff's original Bizarre designs. It's outlined in green with solid diamond shapes of red, blue and yellow. Underneath are fantastic 'Liberty' bands of blue, green, yellow and red. Gold 'Bizarre by Clarice Cliff' backstamp used briefly in the autumn of 1929. Royal Doulton Art Nouveau 'Poppies B' Series Plate D3225 c1910

A classic art nouveau design introduced around 1909. Records show that it was in production until the late 1930s, although pieces now seem to be quite scarce and tend to date from the 1910 to 1920 period. Three colours of poppy are known; pink, blue and yellow. The block printed pattern looks particularly good on ranges of rack and dessert plates such as the one above. The famous book illustrator began designing for Shelley in the 1920s with a few proto-type images and by 1926 was given full credit with the introduction of her BooBoo teapot, milk jug and sugar basin. Other  designs followed, printed on tableware intended for use by children. Difficult to find in reasonable condition, pieces in good order are now at a premium. The fashion for moulded green glazed wares was revived in the 1850s and continued throughout the Victorian period. It was particularly valued for dessert sets and indeed most cakes, fruits, etc. look stunning on these vibrant colours. Blue and White - William Smith of Stockton

William Smith 'Bacchus' Pearlware Tea Cup and Saucer c1825

The Stafford Pottery near Stockton-on-Tees was operated by William Smith from 1825 to 1855. Known for fine quality blue and white, he appears to have been quite an enterprising potter, though overstepping the mark by using 'WEDGEWOOD' impressed on some of his products (note the extra 'E'). Wedgwood eventually managed to legally restrain him from doing this. Here we have a superb 'Bacchus' cup and saucer and a 'Turkish Pavilion' tea bowl. Copeland Spode's Blue Italian Pattern

Copeland Spode Blue 'Italian' Rectangular Serving Dish c1919

The Italian pattern, also known as Blue Italian and Spode’s Italian, was introduced by Spode around 1816. Unlike many of the other classical scene patterns on pottery of the early 1800s, the origin of the view isn't certain and probably combines various elements from different sources. For collectors, the most interesting period is around 1880 to 1930. New shapes were often introduced, sometimes for a short time, which of course makes them rarer to find.
